Ever wonder what houses are selling for in other parts of the country? I’ve heard for years that prices are extremely high in California so I thought I’d take a look and see how we compare and here is what I found.

California First

I was on Lenny LaRocca’s web site www.southbayhomeexpert.com – Lenny covers the Hermosa Beach area in California and I saw that this house in Torrence CA recently sold for $619,000. It was built in 1954, has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 1,338 sq. ft.

What About Florida?

By comparison this house in the gated community of Kelly Plantation in Destin Florida sold recently for $600,000. It was built in 1998, has 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and 3,350 sq.ft.

Four Cities to flight non-stop from Panama City, FL

Southwest Airlines announced that it will fly directly to Orlando, Houston, Nashville and Baltimore from the new airport under construction.

The flights fare will start as low as $49 one way….

and there will be two flights a day from each destination. These low fares will force other airlines to reduce their fares to stay in the game. Southwest Airlines anticipate serving around 2,000 travelers a day.

These strategically chosen cities will provide semi-direct flights to Chicago, New York, Dallas and Ft. Lauderdale. Semi-direct flights mean that you will stop before arriving to your destination, but will not leave the plane. You can book your direct flight now at www.southwest.com.

Recent News about North West Florida Beaches Airport

Southwest Airlines and Bay County tourism officials met in Dallas on Wednesday to sign an agreement.

This agreement will put local bed-tax muscle behind the low-cost carrier’s efforts to market the allure of local beaches.

Southwest airlines will provide daily non-stop flights from 4 cities to the new airport. These cities have not been announced yet. The airline officials will adjust flight schedules to meet the new airport’s May 18 grand opening.

The Walton County Tourist Development Council is expected to authorize a deal with Southwest similar to the Bay County agreement for a half-cent bed tax that county recently approved.

Great News for Property Buyers!

The government tax credit for property buyers have been extended.

The $8,000 tax credit for first time home buyer was due to end on November, but it has been extended for another seven months. This extension is through June of 2010 and buyers must sing a contract by the end of April.

There’s More

The $6,500 tax credit will benefit…

some existing homeowners who are also buyers and whose primary residence has been owned, used, sold, or being sold within at least five consecutive years of the previous eight years.

Only people who made $75,000 a year and couples that made a $150,000 were eligible for this credit. That has also changed to $125,000 for individual and $225,000 for couples – making more people qualified for the tax credit.

This is great news for buyers of Destin Homes For Sale and also for the housing industry.

Tropical Storm IDA!

The latest information about Tropical Storm IDA is that has weakened. However, strong onshore flow continues along coastal areas of the Florida Panhandle. Water levels in this are are currently running around 3 feel above normal with a total storm tide of 3 to 5 feet.

Althought tide has passed, the continued onshore flow will lead to a very slow fall in water levels through the day. Winds are expected to weaken this evening and then become offshore overnight which will end the coastal flood threat.
